We first developed (in 2000) and first analysed in routine clinical care (in 2008) the prehospital treatment of acute stroke. This was facilitated by the use of a specialized ambulance (Mobile Stroke Unit / MSU), which is equipped with the tools necessary for the prehospital diagnosis and therapy of stroke. This includes, a multimodal CT scanner, a point-of-care stroke laboratory and stroke medication. Via telemedicine, results of imaging and videos of patient examination can be bidirectionally transmitted to the hospital to integrate with medical records and obtain specialist advice.
